A little stardust.
A lot of history.
The ambition, the entertainers, the back rooms and the paper trail.
Follow the money.

Casino openings, changing fortunes, showroom nights and federal cases. A growing chronology of the city behind the legend.

The name.
The history.
The record.
Las Vegas has never been short on legends. The documents tell their own story.
Argent takes its name from the company that owned the Stardust and other Las Vegas casinos during the 1970s. This is an independent homage to the city’s past: its ambition, its entertainers, its workers, and the money and power behind the neon.
Our starting point is the reporting of the Las Vegas Sun and the Las Vegas Review-Journal, supported by museum research, independent historians and original archival collections. An article published at the time and a history written decades later are different kinds of evidence. We label them accordingly.

Original reporting belongs to its publishers. Argent pairs historical notes and newspaper reporting with photographs, correspondence, menus and city records. Every entry links to its source; some headlines are shortened. The calendar distinguishes event, publication and record dates. Approximate dates appear only in the timeline.
